What to Get into this Weekend

Lets Jump Into this Weekend, Am I Right?!

What to Binge Watch

Atypical (Netflix)atypical.jpg

Sam, an 18-year-old on the autism spectrum, decides it’s time to find a girlfriend, a journey that sets Sam’s mom on her own life-changing path as her son seeks more independence. I really enjoyed this show, I would definitely give it a 5/5. It has something for everyone. Watch this if you need a good laugh.

The Tudors (Netflix)

A dramatic series about the reign and marriages of King Henry VIII. So far I’m only on season 2, but I would give it a 4/5. It reminds me a little bit of Game of Thrones, so if you need a GOT fix you should watch this.

This Is Us (Hulu)

The story of a family whose three same-aged siblings struggle in unique ways throughout their lives is chronicled in this dramedy. So I’m going to be bold and give this show 5/5. I decided to watch this show initially because it had Milo Ventimiglia from Gilmore Girls, so like DUH!

Adventures of Daffodil

How I Found the Badass Woman In Myself

Welcome to my Story Time!

Once upon a time in a far away land on the east coast lived a young woman named Paige.  The young woman was born and raised in New Jersey. She had a loud, dysfunctional family but they were also very loving. Her family consisted of four siblings, her mother and father, two sets of grandparents, and many cousins, aunts and uncles. And a plethora of pets.

As she grew up she faced many surroundings, happy and exciting, bad and ugly and sometimes even awful. Despite the awful things she dealt with, the young woman was strong and always managed to pull through on her own.

Being the strong woman Paige was, she decided to strike out on her own at the age of 18. She got an apartment, a job and started her college education. Through her education, she realized her love for learning and a long seeded passion for food. Learning both of those things she finished her culinary education and got certified. Along the way she made mistakes but always tried to redeem herself, realizing that only the person in her way was Paige herself. Regardless of the things she had going for herself she still wasn’t completely happy, the young woman constantly compared herself to others around her. She measured her success on what others told her she should be.

That’s the day Paige realized she needed to do something.

What she needed to do was get the hell out of the her own way and stop making excuses  for herself and the people around her. Stop letting the negativity control her life. Paige needed to take control and find her happiness. And she did just that! The strong, brave and beautiful young woman realized all that she was and started to change her life, dropping one bad thing at a time and incorporating the good things that made her happy.

As Paige was changing her life for the better, she found something that made her the happiest she’s been in a long time. Paige found out her to love herself again, to be happy, carefree, silly and be the badass woman she always was.

Change is good for the soul, it’s not always easy but its necessary. The young woman changed her life almost completely, she took a leap of  faith and moved across the country to Montana. Montana has made Paige realize who she really is inside, a brave, intelligent, beautiful, goofy, nerdy, badass and incredibly loving woman. Realizing the person she needs to be is herself. The young woman also found love along the way too. A love stronger than steel. Someone who taught her so many incredible things.

The journey she made was the scariest and the most rewarding thing she had ever done. Paige got over her fear of flying and boarded a plane to over half way across the country. A new beginning in an unfamiliar place is just what she needed and wanted. I think the young woman got lucky but maybe there isn’t luck or fate. Who knows?

No one knows exactly what life will bring or if everything is meant to happen for a reason, but what Paige knew was that changing her life for the better is the best thing she could’ve done; finding love along the way to loving herself is an added bonus. The young woman now lives in a far away land in the Northwest.

Favorite Binge Worthy Things

Welcome to the latest addition of my current obsessions!

I’ll start with what movies and shows I’ve been loving on.

Who loves themselves a good Netflix binge, am I right?

Raise of hands who hates this though :

netflix.jpgAnyway let’s get to what I’ve been watching.

TV Series / Movies

Yoga Hosers (Netflix)

Two teenage yoga enthusiasts team up with a legendary man-hunter to battle with an ancient evil presence that is threatening their major party plans. I would give this 4/5 just because it was unexpectedly funny. Also makes you realize how much we depend on our phones. Oh shit.

Highlander : The TV Series (Hulu)

Duncan MacLeod is Immortal, and must live in modern society, concealing his true nature while fighting other Immortals. The series isn’t as good as the movie in my opinion but it gets better once you get past the first few episodes. You’ll get the reference below once you watch the show. This show was made in the 90s, so kind of gives me that are you afraid of the dark vibe but less scary.

The Defenders ( Netflix)

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist team up to fight crime in New York City. I loved this series! I give this 5/5! You should definitely watch Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist before you watch this. You can skip Luke Cage in my opinion, he’s good with other cast but not really good on his own. sorry not sorry. Go watch The Defenders! GO!

If you’re looking for new music to listen to or add to your playlists. Here are a few I’ve been listening to an embarrassing number of times. I know for sure I’m not the only one who loves to blare their music to the point of almost going deaf. HAHA.

Mental Health Monday

Its the Simple Things

You must be thinking to yourself, what is this girl talking about Happy Monday?

In my personal opinion Mondays are what you make of them, they can either suck balls or be pretty great.

Anyway, lets get to the main point of this blog post.

I am almost certain that most of you have already heard the saying, its the simple (little) things in life that matter.

And you know what? Whoever says that to you, listen to what they have to say! I know now more than ever before that it is in fact the little things in life that matter. Whether its in a relationship, with family or life in general.

Enjoy the simple moments around you, coming home from a long day of work to your pet so ecstatic to see you. A hug after a bad day, week or even year. A kiss that gives you butterflies all over again. The warmth of fresh sheets from the dryer. Smelling the air after its rained as well as smelling fresh cut grass.

Don’t take the people around you for granted. Enjoy the moments with them now not later. Everyone is always so busy running around, looking down at their phones, and not living in the moment.  BE IN THE PRESENT!

We need to collect less things and more moments. Get out and get in touch with nature! Go watch the sunrise, take a walk and soak in your surroundings because we often forget about the beautiful earth we live on.

This past weekend I got my much needed time with mother nature, and it was pure bliss. I’ve always been the type of person to enjoy the simple things in life, but as a human I sometimes forget to enjoy the precious moments I get.

I had a wonderful weekend and I want to thank the stars. I am so grateful for moments where I can disconnect from the world and just be. I feel so alive when I look at the stars, makes you realize what matters most in this world. There is almost nothing better than laying out on a sleeping bag and looking up at the stars with the person you love. Talking, laughing, and seeing a shooting star!

Yes, I saw my first shooting star and it was fucking amazing. We saw a lot more the next night and if I could I would do it every night. Its so relaxing and freeing, taking in the night air with a hint of mosquitoes here and there.

Basically what I’m saying is enjoy the simple things by yourself or with someone. Either way it will do wonders for you.

starssLet me know what simple things you enjoy!

What To Eat

Maple Dijon Pork Chops

  • 4 Boneless Thin Sliced Pork Chops
  • 4 fl oz. Dijon Mustard
  • 5-6 fl oz. Maple Syrup
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Large Pan
  • Ziploc Sandwich Bag

  1. Heat large pan medium to high heat.
  2. Take pork chops and place in Ziploc bag with the maple syrup and Dijon mustard to make a marinade, as well as the salt and pepper.
  3. You can let this marinade sit overnight for a bolder flavor, but if you are in a hurry around dinner time, you can let the marinade sit until your pan is ready to go.
  4. Once your pan is ready to go, place pork chops in pan and pour marinade over them. Turn heat down to medium.
  5. Flip one time, then spoon marinade over them while they cook. Let cook for about 10 minutes or until proper temperature.

Makes about 2 servings.

Pinterest In Real Life

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Hump Day !

Welcome to my first installment of Pinterest IRL!

Lets see if this was an epic fail or win!

So how I came up with this idea? I saw that I had an old candle that was done burning and wouldn’t light anymore. I took the old candle and looked on my Pinterest DIY board.

Its pretty simple. All you need is: an old candle, very hot water and a little bit of soap.

Take the candle and fill to the brim with hot water and let soak for a few minutes. After you let it soak, empty out the water and fill again with hot water. Take a butter knife and gently push down on the sides of the wax and it should easily be removed.

Once you have removed the wax, squirt in a little soap and hot water and let soak for a few minutes or I let mine soak overnight. Wash out soap and water and scrub a little with a sponge and you got yourself a clean, wax free glass container.

I haven’t decided what I’m ultimately going to use mine for but here are some examples I came up with.

A makeup brush holder

Drink packets storage
travel size toiletries for guests

Overall I would say this a Pinterest Win! YAY! After seeing so many Pinterest fails it was kind of fun to actually get a win!!

Guns and Life Lessons

You might be thinking to yourself what do guns and life lessons have to do with one another ? Let me explain!

This past weekend I shot a gun for the very first time! In Montana I didn’t know it was so easy to purchase a gun. The process from start to finish maybe took about 20 minutes and one piece of paperwork. Let me tell you coming from New Jersey and seeing that SHOCKED the hell out of me. I’m thinking to myself : What in the actual fuck? How is it this easy here and not back where I’m originally from. I don’t know much about guns but my personal opinion on owning a firearm, I think every sane and nonviolent person should be able to own a gun to protect themselves and their family. And if you don’t like my opinion then that’s your problem.

Montana Gun Laws
“The right of any person to keep or bear arms in defense of his own home, person, and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall not be called in question, but nothing herein contained shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons.”

New Jersey Gun Laws
STATE CONSTITUTIONAL PROVISION – No Constitutional Provision on the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. However, the New Jersey  Constitution, Art. 1, § 1, does guarantee certain “unalienable” rights, including “defending life,” “protecting property,” and “pursuing and obtaining safety.”

So I shot a gun for the very first time and I was terrified. Actually terrified is not even the word if I’m being honest about it. I was excited up until the point where I was about to shoot and my body just flipped a switch and said be terrified and fearful right now. I thought I was going to shoot my eye out ( haha! yes make your ralphie jokes) or have some hardcore recoil.

I have wanted to learn how to shoot a gun for a very long time. The reasoning behind it initially: it looked cool and fun but as I grew older I realized it was because I wanted to protect myself and one day I might have to eventually hunt for my own food. (Sorry, not sorry vegans) I wanted to learn how to be self reliant as in providing for myself whether its with hunting/fishing or creating my own garden. Anyway, lets not get too off topic with that because I could go on for awhile about it. Maybe I will make that a separate blog post because it is on my bucket list. Hmmm speaking of bucket lists, shooting a gun was on my list. So I can check that off !

Once I got over my fear and have the person teaching me pull the trigger for me because I was being chicken shit about it but can you blame me though since it was my first time  holding a gun or being surprised by how loud it is when it goes off, so I got over my fear after the first two shots. After every shot I started to feel this intense adrenaline rush, I felt such power in it. Its a feeling I cant describe in words. You can to experience it for yourself.  I was always excited about the thought of it but after actually doing it, I FRIGGIN love it so much. I’m so glad I was able to get over my fear. ( with help of course ) You know what? Shooting a gun makes me feel strong and powerful.

2bcb48d5614e9557d2b7bc934dd9d9d5Come to find out I’m not a bad shot for a beginner and I’ll take that. I surprised myself by actually hitting the target and not just the ground. I didn’t hit the bull’s-eye but I got pretty damn close. There is also a lot of safety that goes into it.

The more time I think about guns and learning how to shoot properly, I realize more and more that I’m learning new things about myself. That I can do things I think I can’t. Moral of this story: do shit that scares you, you will not regret it.
